Bevin Dunn
Spiritual Director
Spiritual direction is a unique and sacred relationship, and my heart deeply longs for people to be heard and understood, to be known. In the hurry and distraction of busy schedules, we may find ourselves going through the motions without a real sense of life behind them. When we slow down, what rises to the surface? Our souls were made for an intimate relationship with the One who made us. We find that all of life – heartache and joy, pain and healing – can be brought into honest conversation with this Creator. Spiritual direction creates a space to slow down and listen to our souls and to the God who loves us.
Listening is at the heart of spiritual direction. Ironically, a spiritual director does not actually direct your spiritual life, nor do they tell you what you should do. It may be more helpful to think in terms of a spiritual “accompanier” or “companion.” I will listen attentively to you, and together, we will listen to God and know God listens to us. My hope is that through this kind of listening relationship, you will experience deeper intimacy with God with all of your being: heart, mind, soul, and strength.
How does the idea of living life with God sound to your soul? If God is calling you into a deeper intimacy with the God-with-us, I would be honored to walk alongside and listen with you.

Counseling or Spiritual Direction?
Spiritual direction is not meant to be a replacement for other valuable helping services like counseling, coaching, or pastoral care. In fact, it can be a wonderful complement to these ministries. Whereas counseling typically focuses on specific problems and goals, spiritual direction has no agenda other than the hopes of deepening your relationship with God. For example, you would usually meet about once each month with your spiritual director. This helps reduce focus on the director and keep it on God. Spiritual direction conversations are thus focused on your relationship with God in the middle of whatever you are experiencing in life.
In our spiritual direction time together, if we come across material that needs to be addressed by a mental health professional, I will make an appropriate referral for you. It is not uncommon to be involved in both spiritual direction and counseling. You may have noticed that I am also a licensed professional counselor (if you are looking for my counseling page, click here). Because counseling and direction are different, it is important to discern which kind of relationship you are wanting with me because they are different in nature. In other words, I do not provide both direction and counseling to the same person. I’ll be happy to talk with you about it!
Is Spiritual Direction for Me?
Spiritual direction may be for you if you find yourself with questions like:
Do you feel stuck in your relationship with God?
Do you find yourself knowing things about God, but have trouble believing or feeling them to be true?
Do you long to experience even more of God in your daily life, to be more aware of God’s presence?
Do you desire to have a conversational, intimate, close relationship with God?
Are you facing a major decision and wanting to hear the voice of God?
Who can participate in spiritual direction? There are as many answers to this question as there are people! Some examples:
A new parent who is finding they no longer have room for the ways they used to connect with God
A pastor battling burnout, talking about God with others every day yet struggling to connect to God in their own life
A person who recently experienced God in a powerful way and wants to discover more of God
A single person who longs to be married and yet finds themselves trying to navigate life, church, and relationship with God alone
A recently retired person wanting to explore how to connect with God in this new season
Someone who recently lost their child and is wrestling with God in their grief
A healthcare professional offering support to others but searching for a way to receive support and feel the love of God themselves
Someone facing difficult questions about their faith and trying to find a place to ask them
The person who is enjoying their relationship with God and wanting to deepen it even further
A person facing a major life decision
The list could go on and on!
What is your heart longing for with God? What is God’s longing for you?
It is important to feel safe and comfortable with your spiritual director, so I would love the opportunity to connect with you prior to setting up an appointment to make sure we both feel drawn to sessions together. Please reach out to connect about what our time together could look like and about scheduling a time to meet.
